Handmade Yi Xing Tea Pot- Golden Duanni Clay - Huang Jin Duan Ni 黄金段泥
Explore handmade Yixing teapot, shaped in a clean square form and made from Huang Jin Duan Ni (Golden Duanni clay) from Master Jinlong Zhou, a leading young artist in contemporary Yixing Zisha pottery.
Huang Jin Duan Ni is a rare type of Yixing clay, valued for its soft golden color and its porous structure, which gently absorbs the essence of tea over time. This interaction subtly enhances the flavor of each brew, making the experience more layered with continued use. The square shape isn’t just aesthetic—it reflects the potter’s skill, as working with angles and clean edges in Yixing clay demands precision. Brewing tea with this kind of teapot feels intentional and grounding. Over time, it not only develops a deeper patina but also becomes a reflection of the teas it has carried. With Huang Jin Duan Ni becoming harder to source, pieces like this hold quiet value, both as a functional teaware and a part of a living tea journey.

The Rarity of Huang Jin Duan Ni (Golden Duanni Clay) 黄金段泥
Huang Jin Duan Ni, or Golden Duanni Clay, is one of the most coveted Yixing clays, prized for its subtle golden hue, porous structure, and thermal properties. Mined in limited quantities from the yellow section of the Zisha (purple clay) strata, this clay has become increasingly rare – elevating its value to collectors and connoisseurs alike.
Its porous nature allows the teapot to “breathe,” absorbing the aroma of the tea with each brew and enhancing flavor over time. Unlike glazed ceramics, Duan Ni subtly interacts with the tea, refining taste and character the more it’s used. The golden tone gives the teapot a warm, luminous presence, glowing
gently under natural light, a true joy to behold and to use.
- Initial Preparation:
Before first use, rinse the teapot inside and out with clean water. Then, place it in a container, fully submerged (including filling the teapot itself with water), and let it soak overnight. The next day, pour boiling water over it to rinse. This gentle process helps remove any residual clay scent or dust and prepares the teapot for brewing.
- Daily Use and Maintenance:
After each use, simply rinse the teapot with hot water—no soap needed. Allow it to air dry with the lid off to keep the interior clean and fresh. Over time, your teapot will develop a natural patina that enhances both its beauty and the flavor of your tea.
