Blissed Cliff (Da Hong Pao) 大红袍
A classic Wuyi rock Oolong tea (Big Red Robe/Da Hong Pao) with a typical mineral and roasty flavours. Its leaves are in the shape of tightly knotted ropes. After steeping, the liquid comes out bright and orange. This tea may taste fiery at first, but it has a pleasant floral aroma complemented by a long-lasting sweet aftertaste.

Chinese name: Da Hong Pao 大红袍
Nurtured in a protected nature reserve in Wuyi Mountain, this Da Hong Pao rock oolong tea (Yan Cha) has inherited the mineral taste from its extraordinary location. As a typical Wuyi Rock tea, it has been hiding away in the cliffs. Legend has it that it also brings blessings to people who drink it. It originated from a story of a scholar who became sick on his way to the Imperial Exam. Thanks to the monks in the temple who made this tea for him, he recovered and won first place in the exam. He was then rewarded with an honorary imperial scarlet red robe. Later, he also served this tea to the emperor’s ailing mother, and it became an exclusive tribute tea for the Imperial family.
This tea belongs to our Yǐn 隐 | RECLUSE collection.
Warm Brew
3g | 100ml | 100 °C | 3s | 5-7 steeps
We recommend a steeping temperature of 100 °C (212 °F) to fully stimulate the strong aroma of this Oolong tea. Take 3 grams of tea with 100ml water to steep for 3 seconds. Or increase to 8.3 grams if you prefer a stronger tea, like how the locals would drink this typical Wuyi Yan Cha (Rock Tea). It can be re-steeped 5-7 times when using a tea egg, Chinese Gaiwan or Yixing teapot. This tea is best suited for consuming in small cups to appreciate the tea with patience.
Cold brew
5g | 750ml | 5 °C | 12 hrs
Take 5 grams of tea with 750ml water and keep it in the fridge for 12 hours. We recommend preparing it in the evening before you go to bed, or in the morning so you can enjoy it during the day. If you want to keep it in the bottle for longer hours, please start with a lower amount of tea to avoid getting too strong.
Beautiful whole leaves. The taste is fresh and rich, lots of flowery notes with rocky, smoky and ashy undertones. Exactly like a proper Da Hong Pao should be. I greatly enjoyed it!
